Highlights of the tour
The first stop will be the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre, where the key feature will be their innovative reuse centre and the education services surrounding it. You will also see the large landfill and waste recovery operations in place, as well as hear about innovative plans for building a new MRF, ORRF centre, and an AWT facility.
The tour will then proceed to the SITA Advanced Resource Recovery Facility at Raymond Terrace. Here you will see the SITA owned AWT rotating drum system in place, which is one of the oldest operating in NSW. SITA staff will give a presentation on this facility as well as some of their other facilities in operation across Australia.
From Raymond Terrace we will carry on to Bulahdelah, where Great Lakes Council constructed its first Resource Recovery and Waste Transfer Station. This facility services 1500 residents and opened in July 2011. The design was well researched and focused on safety, simplicity and minimising environmental impact.
The next destination, and our overnight stop, will be Taree. There will be the opportunity for some networking and socialising prior to dinner at Sailo’s Restaurant overlooking the beautiful Manning River. Dinner, overnight accommodation (in single and twin share rooms) and breakfast will be provided as part of your tour cost.
The next morning a tour will be conducted of the Greater Taree City Council Landfill and Quarry, which includes a new small scale composting system, the Mobile Aerated Floor (MAF), which is gaining a lot of interest in smaller communities. The council and the contractor will give a presentation on the use and benefits of the MAF system.
The tour will then proceed to the Remondis Composting Facility which is incorporated in the Cairncross Waste Management Facility at Telegraph Point, just north of Port Macquarie, where the focus will be on the Remondis Organics Resource Recovery Facility and what it has achieved for processing organic waste from the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area.
The final destination for the tour will be the Biomass Waste Management Facility in Coffs Harbour, at the Englands Road waste precinct operated by Coffs Harbour City Council. Again, a presentation of the processes and experiences of this facility will be given by Biomass staff.
The technical tour will conclude with arrival at Opal Cove Resort in time for early registration, and participation in the Welcome Reception, for those who are registered and attending the Waste 2012 Conference and social events. For those not attending the conference, this is where your tour ends.
DVD’s and videos as well as oral presentations will be given on the bus in transit in addition to the above site facility tours. All safety equipment will be provided as well as other relevant items, such as water, sunscreen, note pads etc.
Inclusions:
