Introduction

Despite the oppressive drought and threat of bushfires, regional NSW has some remarkably inspiring experiences to share which showcase innovation and initiative to combine business sustainability and regional development.

SEDA has partnered with Resource NSW, NSW Environmental Protection Authority, Planning NSW, NSW Department of State & Regional Development and Country Energy to develop the 2003 Regional Sustainability Seminar Series.

Venues

Orange Ex Servicemen's Club: Tuesday March 25, 2003
Wyong City Council Chambers: Tuesday April 1, 2003
Queanbeyan Civic Centre: Tuesday April 8, 2003

Format

The format will be a full day of plenary sessions featuring local presenters and case studies from local businesses who have had success in making their business more sustainable. In response to delegate feedback, the scope of the seminars has broadened from the previous sustainable energy focus to encompass topics such as:

  • Salinisation,
  • Sustainable agriculture,
  • Organic foods,
  • Water & waste management, and
  • Environmental & regional planning controls.
Other features of the 2003 Seminar Series include an official seminar dinner at a local venue, featuring local organic produce and a bus tour of sustainable sites the following day. We are again happy to work with the local host Councils of Orange, Gosford & Wyong and Queanbeyan and Impact Environmental Consulting to develop the site visit program.
